We have a Pixie Crunch apple tree that was planted in 2009. This year it has some apples. I was wondering what we should do about not getting worms in the apples. We would rather not kill bees and earthworms. Is there anything we can spray that is safe? There is another apple tree that does not have apples yet and won't for several more years. Across the alley about 25 or 30 feet from our tree is a crab apple tree that always has apples, but holes in them. We have a couple of plum trees that had plums last year and the fruit was fine on them. Just little bitty plums. I think they are called native plums.

Bonide makes some fruit tree sprays and products that are organic. You also should't spray while the trees are blossoming to help protect the bees from getting the pollen that is laced with the chemicals. But I also know that there is a product out on the market I think it is called fruit socks or fruit bags that you can slip onto each developing fruit to keep it protected from the bugs that want to suck or chew on the fruit. I thought they were nylon stockings so youcould just buy a bounch of those too.

Timing is everything with fruit trees. Next year, plan to buy and spray with Neem oil or with Dormant oil. My fruit condition has never been an issue with me--I'll cut away or around things I don't like or feed those to my animals bc I have 4 apple trees, 3 of which are mature. You use those products in February or early March and they prevent this problem but use natural ingrediants. Now it's too late, but like above, there are some products that you could try.

I will try the socks on the apples. I watched videos how they did it. There is about 30 apples the size of big grapes and all are in the middle part of the tree and not up high, so I can reach them. Thanks for the ideas.
