They are red delicious, bear a lot of fruit but because I have no idea what I'm doing, the trees need pruned very badly. I've been told to cut them down and start over but I don't want to give up decades of growth to start over. Any suggestions? How radicle can I prune them?

Any good sites that show how to prune--I'm a visual person.

Wow,

Thanks Ridgerunner, that link had a great recipe for dealing with Codling Moth.

Home Remedy:

* 1 cup vinegar
* 1/3 cup dark molasses
* 1/8 tsp ammonia
* 4 2/3 cup water

Cut a 2 to 3 inch (5.1-7.6 cm) hole into the top of an empty 1 gallon milk jug. Place 3 inches (7.6 cm) of the solution in the bottom of the jug. Hang several of these in the tree. This works well for apples pears and others.
Thank you, I will be doing this next year. I lost most of my fruit to holes throughout them... I never saw the culprit.

I guess it is the law of unintended consequences. I never saw that mention about coddling moths. I now have it saved. I think I'll cut the hole in the side and put the cap on the milk jug to try to keep most of the rain out. I'd imagine a little rain water would not hurt (maybe make up for evaporation) but we do get some frog-stranglers.

Thank you for mentioning it.
