This was the peasant's lunch, today. Oh, I included some fushimi peppers after I'd finished the Italian Sweets and then had a small bowl of ice cream . . . :p

The cabbage? These are what we call the "ears". The heads were harvested about 6 or 8 weeks ago. I always leave some "stumps" in the garden and they grow nice, tender buds.

Honestly, I think they are better than the cabbage head was ;).

One of my Big Finds in 'o9 was the fushimi pepper, HiD'. I got the seed from Evergreen, the Asian veggie company.

I should have taken another picture of a nearly empty plate with the little fushimi peppers as "seconds". They are sweet, sweet, sweet - never get hot even when they are red-ripe.

Let's see . . . what was I talking about??

Steve ;)

I am looking forward to trying my "ears" this weekend. Some of my cabbages made a small additional head. I was very surprised. Do you preserve any of your cabbage? I grew it mostly for the chickens, but now it is so good, I want it! Lunch looks great!

I have tried to make sauerkraut - on 2 separate occasions, Lesa.

The results: ugly black, smelly garbage!

If it had turned out good, I couldn't have eaten very much of it anyway. I like pickled things but they don't always like me . . . .

Cabbage keeps well in the fridge and I've just harvested the last of the "lates". But, the ears are still out there growing!
