Asparagus Questions

Yum, I love asparagus. I think I may plant some of those. It seems as though with asparagus that it might be better to make a permanant box of some sort to grow them in. How long do they take to produce edible food? How many years will they grow? When should these be planted? I didnt want to hijack Broke Down Ranch's thread is why there is a seperate thread on these now.

Are you planning on planting them from seed, or root? Roots from a nursey may start to produce a few spears the first year, seed may take 2-3 to produce.

Yes a permanent box, or bed is a good idea.

They can continue to grow, with proper care, for years and years.

One of the tricks is to let a few of the smaller spears go to fern, each year. This is required to keep the root stock healthy, and produces bigger spears following years.
