Asparagus Roots vs crowns

Can anyone tell me what the difference is?
I saw asparagus roots for sale at TSC.
I see crowns for sale in many catalogs.
There is an obvious difference in price. Do roots take longer to mature? TIA.

i thought the roots and crowns were the same thing!

i know that if you start asparagus from seed it can take up to 3 years till you get crowns ready to start producing the edible part you want!
