Asparagus- what am looking for?

I planted my asparagus. I did everything I was supposed to- trenches, etc. The directions said to fill the trench, as I see little weeds coming up....Weeds? If it starts to grow, does it look like weeds or asparagus? I know there is something about a fern looking part, but I thought that was in the fall?? My optimistic hopes for asparagus are beginning to fade...

It takes a while after you first plant the crowns for it to come up and you have to regularly give them a good watering. When they first start coming up they look just like store bought asparagus except maybe a smaller diameter. I had given up on mine and then they started popping through everywhere. Wish I could remember how long it took for them to start , but it's been several years now. The fern looking stuff happens after they look like asparagus for a week or so. Hope this helps! Hang in there they're probably just slow.

Thanks! You give me hope. I love gardening, but I am not the most patient person! I have to force myself not to look at seeds I planted yesterday! I won't give up yet...

It will produce a little asparagus (like the one you buy) but really skinny and tall it will grow in like one day.. now mine are looking like this .. they have been growing for like a month and a half

Ohhh- thanks for the pic. Now I know what I will be looking for. We are having mild weather and light rain- maybe that will help...Thanks!
