Avoiding GMO foods

I ran across this site and thought some here may be interested in it. You have to be able to read a PDF file (acrobat reader) to get it. It lists the companies and brands that are GMO free. You may want to print out the list and take it with you when grocery shopping. To get the list of brands click on the "download the shopping guide"

BTW, are the non-GMO companies holding their own and making decent profits? I noticed that the big names are on a lot of "may contain GMO" lists.

That is a good one! I have been using that list for awhile. Remember, anything labeled "Organic" cannot use GMO ingredients. Sure makes me glad I don't eat a lot of prepared foods....

The hardest GMO stuff to stay away from is corn syrup. I swear it's in everything but I think the idea of non GMO is finally catching on. I recently found Natures Own bread which contains no corn syrup and even a line of soda pop made with cane sugar instead on corn syrup. it's Hansen's natural cane soda.
Incidentally only cane sugar is now non GMO. They got to the sugar beets and now that sugar is GMOd.

On a slightly different (but similar) note, I'm trying to get our family to switch over from pasteurized milk to raw milk that is produced in the Fresno area that I can get at the local Sprouts market.. I ran across a thread indicating what is allowed by the FDA in regular old milk (we've been drinking organic milk for several years) and the stuff that is allowed is disgusting -- haven't yet verified that the claims are true or not but it wouldn't surprise me)! I'm hoping it will also help my wife who's lactose intolerant be able to drink milk or use other derived dairy products.. I ran across a site last week for making your own butter, cheese, sour cream, yogurt and a few others easily at home..

There used to be a place near me where you could get raw milk. In fact Dairy Market Road was named after it but the government is using any excuse they can find to close them down.

Rick, when my girls were young they only drank raw. They got horrible stomach aches form the pasteurized stuff.

Lesa, where did you find that info, that anything "organic" is not GMO? I would like to read more.
