A new client who boarded Christmas holiday called me that his dog had 2 collars and only came home with 1. Did not ask why dog had 2 collars, I said I would search for it and call him back. I found the collar hanging up where collars go and called back the owner. He was very upset his dog didnt have both collars on. I offered to Fedex overnight collar, but that wasn't good enough. I noticed his Scarsdale address was on a street with 5 to 10 million dollar homes. I love seeing great houses and had no choice but to deliver collar after work. The house had electric gates like all the houses on the street. I could only glimpse the roof from street. I pulled up and a voice asked if they could help me. I said I was expected I delivering dogs collar. I was very excited waiting for gates to open. The voice came back and said " please leave it in the mailbox" What a disappointment guess I don't rate enough to open the gates.

Can't help but wonder, was that the collar with the sapphires and diamonds or the one with the solid silver designer rabies tag? Hopefully you now have a note in their file about the second collar and have adjusted the check-in form for your employees to check for that when an animal is dropped off. Or may your groomers are the ones that need to check. That's probably who took the two collars off.

I don't know what was going on inside or who you spoke with, owner or maybe the hired help. None of that surprises me, that's probably a standard way to handle stuff like that with the least amount of disruption to the household. At least they said please, makes me think it might have been well-trained hired help.

I get it - business owner.. customer always right..... but OOOOOOooooo I would have been SO temped to do something spiteful. Like pack the collar in the middle of a great big snowball and leave THAT in their mailbox. Or use the collar to latch the gates shut...

The I would have felt bad about it and gone back in a few minutes to fix it....

It might be useful for you to know how these people came to be in that large house ..

. behind the gate and owners of a dog with 2 collars ..

. before they show up again at your own door.

;) Steve

Seems very rude. After all you delivered it in person. And to want it in mail box! Overnight FED EX would have had it in box almost as fast!

Wouldn't it have been refreshing if they had invited you in for a cup of hot coffee or tea, or just to thank you for the extra effort you went to, face to face?

I have several clients who are quite wealthy (of course they are, who else could afford my $80k/month services @majorcatfish , ;)haha ).

My biggest job that is a multiple days per week is owned by a super wealthy couple with houses around the globe. But they are lovely people, genuinely friendly and interested in my life outside of their landscape. I have been invited in to sit and chat, offered cold drinks on hot days, and just generally made to feel appreciated. In fact I was invited to come stay at their house in CA so I could see their other gardens.
That makes all the difference in the world! I go the extra mile for them very happily.

Some people just don't seem to get it, that when you treat people the way you would like to be treated, everyone's happier, including yourself.
