I got my raspberries from Gurney's yesterday. Problem is, its too wet here to till up the garden! I out a damp paper towel over the roots and shut the box up in the darkest corner of the garage...should I just plant them in spite of the soggy soil and put a lot of straw around them to keep them warm? Its 60 today but supposed to be 50 a few days this week and a few nights could hit below freezing....

You could keep them wrapped in the moist towel for a few days they should be fine. Or you maybe could plant them in a pot indoors and plant outside when danger of frost is over.

I planted a bunch of blueberries from bare root... I didn't think one would do well and didn't bother with it. I left it in a buckets with wet newspaper at the bottom.... it actually started getting buds a little over 2 weeks later. By then I didn't have time to bother with it so it ended up dying. So they should do well if you wrap them.

(I felt wasteful but I had already planted 8 and they all took very well! So I'll be good with blue berries.) :p

Hi Sparkles - I have kept bare root roses in my basement in buckets of water for up to 4 weeks while waiting for the ground to thaw. They grow right in the water. I don't know why raspberries would be much different. I put a dash of bleach in the water to keep it from getting funky.
