Anyone have a bat house that bats use? I see them for sale at a lot of craft shows. Any thing that eats mosquitoes are welcome at my house. Wondering if bat house would be used or just garden ornament. I do see them flying over pond at dusk.

I love bats. At our cabin at 4000 ft in Arnold, we had bats that would roost in the eaves of the overhang. Then we sold that cabin and built a new one, a street away. It took a year or so and finally some showed up.

At our last place, in Murphys, we had lots of bats at 2300 ft elevation. I loved to see them swooping around eating bugs. They would roost in the high eave of the front door cover. I would study the bug parts on the porch - parts of dragonflies, legs of something, etc.

Sad story - the new owners of our place, during escrow, found out that we had bats. They tried to strong arm us that we had not "disclosed" the presence of bats. I jumped all over their realtor and said that bats are normal in our area, that they are wonderful cleaners of bugs, and that the fact that they like to roost at my home is an honor. Their guano is what those three shrubs next to the porch are thriving on, as I swept it every couple of days. Turns out they hired an exterminator to try to get rid of the bats - damn them.....

so long story short - we never used a bat house. They were happily upside down on the eaves of every home we've had up here (except here in Angels Camp).
