Deeply Rooted
Here are pictures of different kinds of berries in and around my garden this year:
Enjoy!
Strawberry
I harvested these strawberries more than a month ago, I really enjoyed them. I think the more the strawberries are in the sun the sweeter and better flavor they are. This year I planted a Junebearer variety of strawberry called Cabot. Cabot strawberries are suppose to be very large, can't wait for these hopefully next year.
Raspberry
The majority of my raspberry canes are starting to get all their blooms now which will be a late summer to fall harvest. But their were a few canes that I left from last year that didn't get pruned, and they produce some raspberries. I wonder how the yellow/amber raspberries taste?, are they that different from the red ones?
Blueberry
I planted a few new varieties of blueberries this season. One bush that I've had for at least 3 years is producing pretty well, wish it would get more new growth on it though.
Blackberry
I must say with the blackberries I've been very excited about them as this is my first time harvesting any in my garden. I've waited patiently for my blackberry plant to start producing for at least 2 to 3 years. To my surprise this spring the entire bush was covered with white pinkish blossoms, slowly but surely turning into blackberries. I'm not sure exactly if the variety is Triple Crown or Black Satin, but I know its one of them. I was so happy seeing some of the red berries turn black as they ripened. I think when the blackberry loses its shine or gloss its ripe. I tasted one for the first time ever and it was a bit sour, don't think it was ripe yet. Then just today I tasted a ripe one which was sweeter with a better taste.
Enjoy!
