Anybody growing any kind of berries in the high desert? I am in San Bernardino county high desert zone 9a. Interested in knowing if there are any types of berries that will grow in this climate.

Thanks!

I don't know about San Bernadino, but I am in the SE Oregon high desert and my raspberries and strawberries LOVE it here! I'm zone 5 or 6, depending on which zone map one goes by. They love lots of water.

Do you ever find any berries growing wild, Cheerio? I like to take my cue from nature- I had lots of wild blackberry bushes on my property- so I went with blackberries and raspberries.

Strawberries I can do. Had 3 varieties last year that did very well.

Lesa, if I found a berry bush growing wild on this property I'd have to call Ripley's Believe It or Not! Ain't nothin' growing wild out here but creosote bushes!

Are you thinking of berries exclusively, or are you also wanting small vine fruits? Because I think grapes would be an excellent
fruit for you to try if you don't already have some.

Thanks Thistlebloom! Grapes are part of my master plan. Probably next year. Concentrating on veggies right now. I was having a conversation with a friend over on SS forum about berries and it piqued my curiosity, so I thought I'd ask.
