Best flowers for a trellis

We have a gorgeous trellis out back. I want to grow a flower up one side and down the other. So far I've had no luck. I have tried creeping roses and clematis but neither really took off. Any tips? I should mention that the trellis is in full sun all day long.

Have you tried wisteria? It has beautiful purple hanging blooms and grows like crazy. It needs lots of water. Your only problem will be controling it. Ivy is also a good climber but does not have the flowers you are looking for.

Wisteria

I love wisteria during the spring months, but it can really take over if you don't control it. It's beautiful. Clematis grow well around here, but I make sure to add eggshells to the soil every so often. My aunt taught me this trick, and it works fairly well. We also have just the right amount of sun and shade for this beautiful plant.

I like morning glories on trellises but they don't stay open all day so I'm not sure you'd like those. Climbing roses do sound lovely - perhaps you could try a different variety? You may need to dig out below where you want the trellis and add some new soil.

Egg shells in the soil? really? That is interesting. We had a rough time with morning glory - we planted it out front and it took over everything. It took us 3 years to get rid of it. I've never tried wisteria, I will have to give it a go.

Hi , for raising wisteria do root pruning ,rigorous pruning of the shoots as well.They need plenty of sunshine and planting seeds would be ineffective to check their blooming habit.It is ideal for covering pergolas and rest depends on your location. Especially I love its scent.
