Bird Feeder?

I don't know if this is the right place but I have a question about my bird feeder. Those suet feeders and this one other kind that is shaped like a curved upsidedown cone--do you just hang those or do you need to give the birds and place to "sit" to eat it? Like with the suet I know it goes in the cage type thing, then is that it? The birds don't land on anything, is that okay?

The birds cling to the side of the suet cage- no problem!
