Nice pics, Major. That is one happy looking Kiwi vine. Is it a large kiwi? My MIL has a monstrous (seriously larger than a bus) kiwi that looks quite a bit different, but it is the little thumb-sized fruits.

That is odd that you haven't any blackberry blossoms. Mine are blooming now, as are the wild ones too, and they are pretty thick with bloom. Did you have a late frost or freeze get them perhaps?

it is a haywood kiwi left is a male, on the other side is the female. use to prune it back and it never fruited after stop pruning it went nuts 2 years ago maybe 5 lbs last year 32 lbs.
so i am letting go basically wherever it wants to go, but i do need to put in a center support.

as for you and the1honeycomb about no blossoms yet on the blackberries, would have to think it's due to lack of winter..aka chill rate and plus we should be in the mid 70's not wishy washy temps, like everyone else.

Everything has off years. Your blackberries will probably make up for it next year after their rest. My first thought on reading the text was blackberry blight but the foliage looks very healthy so it isn't that. You're probably right that the weather had something to do with it.

major, are those kiwis from your plants? That's a lot of them. Are they tart like most kiwis? I like the taste of them but don't like the tartness. I've always wondered if a homegrown kiwi is sweet or at least sweeter than from a store.

Holy kiwi!!! Those look fabulous! I envy zone 7... I would love to have kiwis growing here. There are a few that say zone 4, but I never hear any survival stories. Hope you have as wonderful a harvest this year...

Your blackberry vines look healthy and beautiful.........and empty. :( Sometimes no matter what we do, Mother Nature has other ideas. Maybe like Hoodat said, they'll make up for it next year. yeah, I know, small comfort when you want berries NOW. :/ And your kiwis! Wow! They are really nice. Can you make jelly, preserves, juice or anything, or do you eat them all fresh?

Ok, so I so want to grow kiwi... its on my list of HAVE to haves around here.

I noticed issues with the blueberries being late, the blackberries are late... but my raspberries are right on time! My fruit trees are HEAVY this year, except for the peaches which bloomed on time, then a late frost took most the blooms out. Bummer!

:rainbow-sun

This is going to be an odd... good bad year. All my garlic is amazing, but my lettuce is starting to bolt, the spinach already bolted and things are coming to a close pretty quickly. It got really hot and wet all of a sudden, so the weather has just been funky. Its attacking us all differently down here. It's one odd year in NC Major!
