What is the best way to blanch celery? I haven't planted celery for quite a while, in the past I used cardboard 1/2 gal. milk cartons. Anyone have a favorite method?

Couldn't you just make some cardboard tubes, something like an oatmeal box? How long do they have to stay in place? I don't remember ever growing celery--don't think the climate is right for it here.

Milk cartons since they are waxed/plastic coated so they won't break down or cause rot issues, pvc drainage pipe cut to size also works well. If you cut a slit vertically you can put it around like a tree collar and take it of as needed for inspection.
