So I will be buying some of these from a nursery this weekend, along with some dwarf red cavendish banana trees.

Not very big and grown in sterile substrate since they're cloned (fun facts about bananas, too weird right?) so I was wondering how to transplant them in that kind of situation - and how long will it take them to bear fruit? I know that some bananas around here die back every winter but reappear like crazy when spring warms up.

It never gets colder than around 20 degrees here in Orlando and I was going to plant them very soon and mulch really well. It's starting to get to the rainy-ish season here so now is a good time to plant tropicals!

I was going to put them along my back fence so they would have a nice windbreak too!

Any experiences with these banana types? Anyone have some growing maybe? Sorry to you extreme northerners for rubbing it in.

Edit: I'm also gunning for a few 'zan moreno' variety bananas!

The only banana trees I've ever grown die once they produce bananas. We grew them for several years but they're a pita in our area.
Put them out in the summer, dig 'em up in the fall or grow in containers and find room to store them over the winter.
I don't know what type they were as a lady down the road set them out for sale and I didn't ask many questions when I picked them up.

The tomato you are looking for is probably a San Marzano, a nice paste tomato that gets about 2" to 3" in length. Something like a Roma but larger.

I've quit growing the romas and have replaced them with San Marzanos, use them for a lot of salsa.

THANX RICH
