Will bok choy survive a mid 20's (24 or so) temps. If it won't I need to go out w/ a flashlight and harvest it. It is the open garden no hoop or anything. Thanks for any answers.

It will survive a light frost but that sounds like a hard freeze. I'd get it in.

Bok choy can take some cold but it just keeps getting tougher and more beat up.

Maybe 10% of the bok choy can come thru a sub-zero winter with some snow cover but those plants will be so scarred that you'd never think to bring them into the kitchen! Kale can really take the cold but I've never used it come spring. Quickly, there's mustard greens, spinach, and such from seed :).

Just mess around with them, Kassaundra. You will find which stage of leaf development and which times of the year these things are good. Then, have a mess of them!

Steve :p

Kale and Brussels sprouts (if you have any) should still make it through the Winter in your part of the country. Near Poteau I've dug it out of a snow bank and still had it good. Brussels sprouts don't lose their bitterness till they've been frosted a few times; than they get sweet.

I have kale ( a couple of plants) planted, but I was confused about brussel sprouts so I didn't plant those.

Confused in what way, Kassandra? They are super easy to grow and would make a great cool weather plant for you.

I was confused about when to plant them. They had a looooooooooong seed to harvest time, but they don't like heat so I couldn't figure out when to plant for zone 7b. I love brussel sprouts and would love to grow them.

I started mine both early and late- but my zone is not 7b! I think vfem grows them, maybe she can give you a planting time.
