I was very excited to be harvesting a large handful of red raspberries- when I discovered a branch broken off. (Full of unripe berries, of course!!). Can I use this branch to start new plants? I have it in water now. Cut it up and plant in wet dirt??

If it hadn't started to wither you have a good chance rooting it. Cut it into lengths of 4 inches or so and dip in Rootone. Sharp sand is your best rooting medium if you have access to some. Tent your cutting tray with something like plastic wrap and keep it in bright light but no direct sun.
Don't make the classic mistake of planting any cuttings upside down.

I'd also pull all the berries off and snip off the leaves that would be below the soil line too. A 2-ltr soda bottle with the bottom cut off also makes a good humidity dome. Some say green is better. Keep it out of direct sunlight. Unscrew the lid and leave it loosely on there. Raspberries can tip root if they bend over to the ground. Hope you get a free plant or two out of it! :)
