Our Squash and Zucchini, and Cukes have just about run it's course so tomorrow we are going to pull up the plants and get the ground ready for something else. Will string beans do well this time of yr.? What else might I consider in the legume family. I'm going to get the seeds today.

The green beans we grow are between 70-90 days to maturity.

There are lima beans.

Dried beans take longer.

Bush beans are pretty fast, 50-60 days for the varieties I'm familiar with.

Good luck! :)

Another bean question - do green beans fix nitrogen? I've planted Austrian winter peas as a N-fixing cover crop, but didn't know if regular ol' bush beans would do the same thing. I have a space that I was growing brocc & cauli, and I know it needs to be replenished. I was thinking I could plant something to eat.
