Thank you 4grandbabies, I think I found the answer, I tightened the lids too much. Weird how they say not to sterilize the lids in boiling water before canning...

Instead of bulging upwards, mine get a kink in them when I get them too tight. Then every now and then, I don't get them tight enough and they don't seal. That's kind of aggravating because that is me doing it wrong. I can't blame anyone else.

I don't sterilize them in boiling water, but I bring a sauce pan of water to boil, take it off the heat, then drop the lids in. That is to soften the rubber. I also wash the lids before use. I try real hard to not bend or warp them doing this and I don't scrub real hard. I'm mainly trying to get any dust from manufacturing off them.

I am happy if that helped you. I -like ridge runner- put my flats in hot water, not boiling, and let them set and soften.
I dont think tightening too much will ever be my problem again, with age, I dont have the grip I need to tighten , so will be getting help with mine.

I never did see the point in sterilizing jars and lids in boiling water. The temps inside a pressure canner are far higher than that. If you are gong to put the food in hot boiling may help avoid thermal shock to the glass though.

I never did boil the lids, I just put them in a sauce pan with hot tap water, turn the burner on till bubbles form on the lids then turn off the heat.
