Well, it happens every year - my cauliflower is chugging along, and then we get a hot spell which always ruins them. I'm growing Purple of Sicily this year, which is supposed to tolerate hot weather better, but this week they're calling for temps in the high 80s. Is there anything I can do to help my cauliflower make it through. I'm sure it will cool down again after the hot spell. It's too early for 90s in my neck of the woods (I hope).

Your cauliflower should be ok, since its suppose to tolerate the hot weather, just make sure its watered well should be fine. I have some seedlings that should be ready to plant soon their Farmers Extra Early from Henry's Field. These are tolerate to hot weather too.

Hope this helps! ;)

Thanks, I will keep my fingers crossed that they make it through. I LOVE cauliflower, and have tried to grow it for the last 3 years, but haven't had any luck. :fl

Shade cloth? On poles, so it can be removed easily. You just want to cut down on the solar gain.

Several summers back, we had some seriously hotter summer temps than normal. Easily ten degrees higher than the normal highs. We managed to save most of the tomatoes because we could shade them. Those that we grow aren't suited to daytime temps in the 115*+ range.

That having been said, I have not grown cauliflower since we lived in Utah for graduate school...
