charlie almost went to freezer camp today

i'm gone for awhile today. when I get back my lone chicken has part of her comb gone & blood splattered on her feathers. that Charlie is testing my will to keep him alive. i'm going to get the supplies asap to build/make my own 'kill cone'.

i'm thinking one of the new and up-coming roo babies might make a good replacement for Charlie.

If you are really mad at Charlie, you can do what I did. I rolled up a piece of cardboard and secured it with duct tape. I nailed it up and processed 8 roosters. It wasn't fancy, but it got the job done.

We just used and inverted bleach bottle for a kill cone. It was the right size, easy to cut for the head hole, served easily for 10 chickens and then we just tossed it. Cheap enough! Sorry that you may have to send Charlie to freezer camp, but you can't have him behaving like that.

Sounds more like you need a chopping block and not mess around with a 'killing/suffocating cone'.

We have a couple of traffic cones we altered to use for kill cones. They wash easy, and we just screw them to a fence board when we process our meaties every year. No room here for a bad rooster. Mr T has been well mannered for 3 years but I wouldnt hesitate to stew him if he ever threatened me. He gets rough on the girls sometimes but I put vests on them if they need protection.
