I've been taking a cherry supplement for arthritis and it seems to be working. I also at times use frozen dark sweet cherries. My question is when I look at cherry trees online or in catalogs I dont see a "dark sweet cherry" tree. can someone tell me the proper name of the tree that produces dark cherries so I can order a couple or steer me in the right direction? thank you in advance!

Hi there crissum :frow

I didn't realise that taking dark-cherry juice for arthritis worked -- I must give it a try. As I live in the UK all the names of fruit trees are different so I'm not much help on that subject. But can I suggest that whatever ones you choose you should try to get them on dwarfing stock as cherry trees grow so tall so fast & then the birds get them, not you. :barnie

I would suggest you find out which varieties grow best in your area & then get in touch with a really good grower who will have trees on different height stocks & can give you good advice on which will be best for you. I suggest you get trees that you cac put a net over as you obviously need good crops.

Hope this helps a bit! :rainbow-sun

BEST OF LUCK!

Thanks Hattie!
I looked around and found a new type called carmine jewel dwarf cherry that is small and would actually be better suited for my space. As for the benefits I did some research on cherry juice and than when I went in for my annual physical talked to my doctor and she said to give it a try and it has helped quite a bit. I carry mail so I am on my feet all day walking and I can say that since I started taking the cherry supplement my pain has been halved and am hoping taking long term will be even better. Again, thanks for the advice! chris.
Anyone have any input on the carmine jewel dwarf cherry tree?

The descriptions usually are pretty good about saying whether they are sweet or tart. Sweet ones are often "Bing" cherries. Sour ones are often referred to as pie cherries. Good luck!

Hi crissum :frow

I've just done a bit of research on dwarf cherry trees in the US. I think this site looks reliable:-

http://www.raintreenursery.com/how_to/CHER.html

http://www.raintreenursery.com/catalog/producttype.cfm?producttype=Cherries-Sweet

I've given you 2 different pages -- the 1st is general info & the 2nd is their list (with prices) of sweet cherries. Their prices are pretty good -- pretty much the same as I would pay over here. I urge you to be very careful about who you buy from : a reliable supplier is paramount when buying fruit trees & especially with cherries.

Hope this helps. :rainbow-sun

Thanks again Hattie! I believe this is what I'm looking for, I'll be calling this week, thank you again! chris.

Thanks for the Raintree Nursery info and the Bing Cherry reference. We live at a fairly high altitude (6000') and in a dry, high desert climate. Looking for any other recommendations for fruit trees, especially Sweet, Bing Cherry if anyone out there has a recommendation. Thanks in advance for your help.
