Haha, got ya'lls attention with that heading, didn't I? :lau Betcha didn't know chickens even had nipples! Well, they don't, but chicken nipples are a wonderful thing and I figure ya'll need to know about them. Monty, this is for you because you are a chicken newbie and you like to build and make things. BJTaylor, you need chicken nipples for your new chicks! Chicken nipples make your life easier.

I bought more than I needed and sure enough, I needed more nipples later, plus I made a nipple bucket for a friend of mine and she loves hers! I also bought the drill bit that is the size needed for the nipples. When I screwed the nipples in the bottom of the bucket, before I tightened them down, I squeezed some silicone sealer around them for added water proofing.

I got food grade buckets with lids from the doughnut shop for $2. They make great chicken nipple buckets! The chickens learn to peck the nipples quickly and they can't POOP in their water! :barnie No more scrubbing poopy waterers! If you need to leave for a few days, they will have enough water and you don't have to worry about them. You can give them ACV in the plastic buckets too!

I love my chicken nipples!!

baymule, I've had them in the past. But my husband kept telling me the chickens weren't getting enough water. Every time we watered nearby and they saw a tiny puddle they acted like they were dying of thirst. We now have one of those automatic dog water dishes. Love it!

That's what I'm talking about!! No more poopy waterers! Thanks Bay! How old do the chicks need to be before they can use them?

I got tired of my new, 2 week old, chickies spilling their water so I switched them to nipples. It took them about 5 minutes to learn how to use them. It's a lifesaver!! In the run, I have an automatic nipple waterer: A self-filling dog waterer attached to a garden hose with a PVC pipe out the bottom. At the end, I have a cross piece of PVC pipe with 4 nipples. That's plenty enough for my small flock of 8.

Wallp, supposedly a computer geek wizard who is one of the campers here, he runs a host server thing doodad this fancy that talks about hundreds of terabyte things, anyhow, they are going to try to fix my ole laptop by taking out its win vista and putting a win 7 into it, but they also have PHOTOSHOP to put in it!!!

Oh boy, a new toy for my mad scientist mode!

I'll be able to make ROOSTER NIPPLES!

Insert mad scientist cackles and heinous laughter...

Marshall, my BIL is a really smart computer guy. He is so smart that whenever he works on my or DH's computer, we can't get it to work right for a long time. :duc Things that are totally basic for him are beyond my comprehension. I try to keep his hands off my computer at any cost. Then if he tries to explain what he is doing--Oh my, I just get an instant brain shut-down. So be careful if you have a computer geek "fix" your computer. It will never be the same.

The one he'll be working on is that one with the virus that won't let me go to my favborite page. I was going to just use it as a seed flat warmer, but if he can make it actually work it'll be ok too, should still make a nice seed flat warmer.

Ninnymary, every time my hens get a puddle, they act like they are dying of thirst too. They did that when I used the tray waterers as well. It seems that dirty water puddles have a lot more flavor! :he

Marshall, I want to see the photo shopped pics of rooster nipples. Are you sure you can post those kind of pics here? :lau

Monty, you will love chicken nipples! I hope it makes your chicken chores a little easier! You can start your chicks on them any time. I held the chickens heads and "pecked" the bottom of the nipples. They caught on real fast.

bay, don't you worry about them clogging? if i'm around, that's fine - i'll catch it - but what about when you're gone a few days?
i'm soon getting goats (about 7 of them). haven't figured the breed yet. I've got to figure their water out too. i'm not gone often, but now & then I get lucky & get to go someplace fun.
