Ok, I feel like one of those ah,.. 'silly' people who doesn't know that potatoes grow underground, but how do you grow garbanzo beans? Do they climb like regular beans? Are they in pods?

I have never seen them in a seed catalogue, but we eat a lot of them, so I would like to try growing some.

Good question! A friend of mine just asked if I would grow some for him- and I said the same thing. I have never seen them in a catalog...Anybody know?

I have some vague notion that most chickpeas are bush rather than pole type but am not sure. Yes, they are in pods like any bean, and are grown like any drying bean. Try googling?

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

I just looked it up on wiki , and it says they are tropical or subtropical but they will grow in temperate areas with a reduced yield. I guess probably either plant them like regular beans or peas, or maybe try to sprout them inside first. Something I've never really eaten much of or tried to grow but Good Luck!

I've grown chickpeas last year, yes they grow like bush beans. You usually only get 2 to 3 chickpeas per pod, at least the kind i had. The leaves are small almost like leaves of thyme. And they grow rather slow, they need to be watered well cant expose them to drought conditions.
