Since I posted about the bouquets, I was thinking of what I have that will be in bloom for the season for the next couple of months. Then I thought about my favorites that I like to have whether to cut or just to look at.

So my favorites:
Spring - Tulips
Summer - Hydrangea
Fall - Crocus

What are your favs for each season (or just your 1 over all favorite)?

In the spring, daffodils. My most comforting memory is of being about 4 yrs. old, lying on a hillside literally yellow with thousands of blossoms, all carefully divided and planted by my mother. The harbingers of spring waved over my little head and filled the air with subtle perfume. When nurses ask me to think of the beach to mask some pain they need to inflict, I use this thought instead. The flowers are still there, aging gracefully.

Daffodils are so carefree and pretty. I am always glad to see them after a long winter and my eye's are starved for color. I've dug up divisions from my dad's farm (and iris and peony too) that were planted by my great-great-grandmother ages ago. There is also an impressive field of old daffodils in about 6 different varieties waaaay out in the woods where we hunt mushrooms. There's nothing left of the old home site but mossy foundation stones, rusted pieces of wrought iron and farm implements and old broken bottles. But the daffodils bloom on... Gotta love a low-mainenance beauty like the daffodil.

Most of my favorite flowers are spring: tulips being my #1 fave! As for summer, I love foxglove (among many others). I can't really think of a "fall" flower that I love. I guess the closest thing would be pansies.

For right now, right here, gardenias. The one by my porch even drowns the night odor of the 4 neighboring commercial chickenhouses, if the wind's right.
