I have this one lemon tree that i've had for a few years now, it was so nice to see it bloom with those sweet smelling blooms, i can still almost smell them after a few years. This past spring i moved it outdoors a little too early and a frost came and the tree died back in half but it grew back with no problem i should hopefully have blooms next year.
I've been thinking of giving a few other citrus trees a try like maybe an orange or lime, i should still have time to order them, then during the winter i'll keep them inside and they'll keep growing so maybe i can get blooms and hopefully fruit off those as well.
I know there are some companies that sell their citrus trees at bearing age, which saves time.

I would love to hear what kind of citrus trees you have? and your experiences with them.

Thanks!!

Hi Greenthumb :frow

Last March I bought a couple of little citrus trees (they were on offer along with olive trees). I bought one of each -- an un-named lemon, a Calmondin Orange plus the Olive, the 3 for BP12 . They are usually so expensive over here that you have to be very sure you want/can grow them -- I thought they would be good to practice on.

The first thing I did when I got them home was to take a good look at their root system as they were in minute pots. I knew that you should keep them in small pots but this was ridiculous so I put them in slightly larger, better looking clay pots. They were very sparse plants, barely more than whips but now they have really bushed out & are thriving. Our winter here was terrible & very long but eventually I put them outside but in a semi-sheltered position -- they are loving it. I have had a flower on the orange but so far no fruit.

I cook quite a lot of Thai food but it is almost impossible to buy fresh Kaffir Lime leaves where I live & anyhow the cost is so high so I ordered a 2ft high tree along with a Myers Lemon from a specialist nursery. I did a lot of research first as the prices varied so much according to what company you ordered them from. The two plants, along with some special food arrived last Tuesday & they are in wonderful condition (& were beautifully packed). They came from a small family-owned buisness & the owner told me that he would hold over sending them till the next Monday so they would not get stuck in the delivery system over the weekend. They were with me within 24hrs, delivered in an open topped container. Believe me this is a real rarity here. Of course I emailed my thanks straight away.

The owner of the nursery who I had spoken to had picked me out a lovely small Myers Lemon covered with flowers & with one large lemon plus 3 tiny ones. The 2ft Kaffir Lime does not have fruit on it yet, but I can see tiny flower buds forming. It's so exciting! I can see all this turning into a new gardening obsession along with my old roses & the clematis & the vegetables...............etc, etc. :celebrate
