Plantain weed (plantago major) is nicknamed miner's lettuce around here. Not the same thing at all though. :)

Never grew it on purpose, but had it volunteer profusely in garden beds. It was too pretty to call it a weed. I'm not on the east coast either so I guess that's not helpful. But welcome Majorcatfish!

I have some seed, but didn't get it planted last year -- a crummy growing year for me. Perhaps this year will be better and I'll get some growing. DH is named Clayton so I rather liked the name.

Plantain is edible. I don't care for it though, not big on greens myself...well I do like collards and lettuce. My sister loves it though, along with dandelion greens :yuck:

planted miners lettuce as a novelty in the raised beds.... well well did it take off here in the east coast.
remember this from years gone by while living at tahoe and backpacking in the sierra nevada mountain range of california. fly fishing for trout and picking this for dinner...
and the best part of it now? don't need to worry about catching beaver fever aka ... Giardia

you talk about a wonderful edible plant to add to your salad..dang it brings back memories.
going to let some go to seed, if you are interested in it you can get seeds from johnnys.

heres a bit of history on it. very healthy for you.
