It is with great sorrow and regret that I announce the passing of Rusty, the fertilizer bunny, yesterday. When I went out to the coop for feeding, he was cuddled in his bed as if asleep, but alas, the worst had happened.

I don't know the life expectancy of a "pet" rabbit, but I had Rusty for 6 years and he had lived as a house rabbit for at least a couple of years before that.

He was a brave bunny who hid well to avoid danger and always came back home when the threat was over. He will be missed.

I am so sorry! :( I know how you feel. I have lost 2 of mine since I got these rabbits, Twinkie and Pickles. Found them like you said. No sign of anything wrong and had eaten that day. I nearly lost Cream last month. I bought a new sack of food. I thought it looked odd. It had a lot of pellets smashed. The rabbits were eating and eating like starving and I thought maybe the cold, but Cream looked bad. I found a sack of food that I had not emptied all the way and the color was even different. I bought a new sack and started feeding Cream Critical Care several times a day and switched him to a timothy hay based pellet instead of alfalfa. I am switching all of them soon. Cream will not eat hay and that is why he was so thin. Standing on a pile of fresh hay starving, how crazy.
