Compost Pile

Just wanted to share that my hubby & daughter built me a new compost pile today! We had one of those tumbling composters but outgrew it now that our whole yard is a garden.

I'm hecka happy now! Hopefully we'll have better soil/yields next year. Plants have been growing great, lots of green leaves, ginormous bushy plants, but somewhat lower yield than I'd hoped for. I really needed a bigger compost pile.

So happy now! Weeee!!!!

How wonderful!! I think making your own "dirt" is one of the coolest parts of gardening!

You can never have too much compost. I have 2 bins and it's still not enough for my small garden. Can we see a picture of it?

I'll get pics today. It was built out of pallets. When we lived in Sacramento, we had a nice compost pile built out of pallets and had the best soil EVER those 2 years we were there, and I told hubby in passing it would be really cool to have a nice compost pile like that again. He and our daughter went outside for an hour, came back in, and said, "Come see your new composter!" They EVEN cleaned out the big coop and put all the hay & chicken leavings in the composter to give it a nice, healthy start.

Composting is half the fun of gardening!! A healthy compost pile, with big juicy worms here and there, is a joy to behold. Then, after it is all said and done, turning out that moist black soil into a hungry garden. I need more compost piles... :watering
