got home today and was watering the children, it was time for the corn and found a quarter of the second time around seedlings pulled up. this is not going to be my year for corn.....
looks like i will be buying some bird netting ...ggrrrr
some members have snow, drought, voles guess it's my turn...

it's ok guess i will just do one big planting and foil their plans...

thats why they call it gardening and not fishing....

Ugh! The first time I planted a patch of corn- I swear the crows dug up every single kernel! They left little holes and the corn was gone! Had to replant and cover with bird netting. The corn grew great and some other critters ate darn near every ear of corn. I don't plant corn anymore! Good luck! I hope you have better luck than I did!

I was planning to plant my sweet corn after the first of June to avoid pollination by all the field corn in the area. I've never had a problem with birds eating seeds that I've planted, but now that ya'll have mentioned that threat I will cover my corn bed with floating row cover until the plants are past being interesting to birds.

We used to string fishing line haphazardly across the corn to chase the birds away. They would hit the string, unable to see it well, and stay away. For some reason we don't need to do it any more.

The scarecrow just points out to where you have just planted the corn. This helps the crows to find their breakfast of champions much faster, don't you know ! It even harbors mouse families in it's shirt pocket and babysits Peter rabbt and his cousins. It is a total deadbeat. :hu
