So I have started looking into a new corn variety for next year, and I notice different species being divided up by their productivity. What does that mean? Isn't it always/usually one ear per corn?
I always though that 'productivity' is geared for corn farmers. At one ear per plant, there is a noticeable difference between a ten-inch ear with 13 rows of kernels and one 16-inches with 17 rows.
Productivity? Usually by sweetness gene, maturity, color.
Kernel rows are even rows. Each leaf connection has the potential for an ear. There are genetics that put on a small ear at each node. Usually not a large ear.
