One of the guys here used to work for a landscaper. He disapeared for a few hours this afternoon. When I went outside 2 yews and 2 boxwood where trimed into balls. I HATE THAT LOOK.It is so unnatural nothing grows in a prefect ball. I like shrubs the way they grow, might have something to do with the hours in hot sun triming my parents hedge as a kid. Every sat all season I had to cut grass and trim hedge with hand trimer I got $2.00 for the job. I am hiding the hedge trimer from now on. PS he was so proud of his work today !!!!!!

One of my close neighbors maybe a mile and a half away trims a few evergreens near the road into a perfect Christmas tree cone shape. Totally unnatural.

I agree it's unnatural. What possesses people to do that? If your making a true sculpture that's one thing like a dragon, or as Bay said a giraffe but to make giant green lollipops? Or cubes? No thank you. But then I don't get most show cuts either. Like the cut they give cocker spaniels & springer spaniels. Its not practical they look like they should be pushed sideways to clean the floor.

I respect those who can do it I don't want you to take it as a slam on you NyBoy I just don't get WHY anybody would want it done that way. I think it's silly looking. (But then I'm the guy who leaves the feathers on my Golden's legs & doesn't trim their feet ;)

Locally, there is a deciduous tree "trimming" service whose specialty is to hack all the limbs off leaving stubs. Then in the spring these stubs put out lots of spindly sprouts, so they look like giant squids. I get a pain in my heart every time I see one of those victims. Many of these trees had been planted too close to the overhead power lines years ago, so the blame is shared, I guess. :\

A wife once bought in her portie and asked for a lion cut. A lion cut is, the back legs and back from rib cage is shaved to skin while chest and front legs are left long. I hate the cut, looks like a lawn mower did it. Well her husband picked up the dog, wife forgot to tell him about new look. When the husband saw the dog he went crazy. Then he thought he was on one of those shows with hidden cameras. Had to disappoint him he wasn't going to be on TV.

Oh No! I trim by rosemary into christmas trees. They are in black square pots surrounded by pink petunias and I think they look very English. :hide

I like the fancy trimmed stuff, as long as it is done well, not tiny lollipops on top but nice big ones, square hedges, and my favorite the gumdrop trees on a stick :) It would look out of place here, but can look nice in "fancy" places.
