After I'd taken more than a half dozen pictures of the dahlias thru the growing season, I was inspired to put a few of them together.

The earliest photograph has the "weeds" and Asian greens a week or more before the dahlias began to show up. Many of those greens were harvested & the remainder went to the compost. We then move quickly to the growing dahlias and the first blooms. The final 3 pictures are all from the last few weeks.

Right now, we are entering the peak of the dahlia season. Fortunately, the mid-September frost here just damaged a few of the tallest flowers and even they recovered.

Many flowers have come out of this dahlia cutting garden :p. There are more to come but when cold weather arrives, even without a frost, the plants will sloooooow and the blooming season will come to an end.

Yes, nearly half the plants are one variety: Show 'n' Tell. They are very popular and do very well here. Still, I think that more of some of the others should be saved or, more tubers purchased for 2013. I believe that I once figured out that there are about 30 varieties and a little too much has gone to Show 'n' Tell ;).

The music is by composer Maurice Ravel, Ma mre l'oye (Mother Goose). He originally wrote it for his 2 young children to play on the piano as a duet.

Uh, oh. Well, I posted then - THEN - checked the youtube "settings" for the slideshow.

It was on "private" so I changed that . . .

. . . If it is still not allowing you to view, I will edited the original post with a new URL. I hope I can get it right!

Realize that the pictures are of the entire garden, or as much as I can include in the shot. I don't have any close-ups but may be able to do that in the next few days.

Shoot, I haven't done anything with Youtube in nearly 18 months so had almost forgotten what I was up to there!

The settings say: "Anyone with the link can view." Now, what do I need to do?

. . . .

It could just be in the memory of my computer. Maybe, time is required for the service to get it online. Yeah, I remember something about that . . .

Steve, that was just LOVELY! I don't know how you do it. You grow the most beautiful dahlias and can put the pictures to music! You have some great computer skills. I'm jealous! :/:rolleyes:

Thistle, I can't believe I'm able to see the pictures and hear the music and you can't. You know I have no computer skills.

One of the major Dahlia breeders is in Montana. I have to find their webpage again.

Thanks!

Imma going back & delete the 2nd attempt at the slideshow. It had the same URL I discovered after posting it . . . I don't know why I don't check things 1st rather than shoot & then aim.

I'll try for some close-ups over this week. We actually had a sprinkle of rain overnight! No one believed me but I saw wet asphalt when I looked out the window at 4am. And, there is a tiny storm moving away from us into the Selkirks this morning.

Might just be Joe Btfsplk on his usual fall migration north, he says it's to find the seasonally better weather. If he drifts back down into the neighborhood his passage may be marked by frost. So far, there's nothing like that in the forecast but Joe Btfsplk is highly unpredictable at this time of year.
