Difference 3 Days Made

Wed night I had to go to weekend house to check on some work being done. I was worried I lost all my red buds and some weeping maples. They had no sign of leaves, all the red buds in area where flowering away. Last night when I walked the garden all but 1 maple started to leaf out !!

More likely they where all planted in fall, just need more time to wake up .

Hopefully, they will be OK Nyboy. This was a very harsh winter. I noticed our red bud was not as full with flowers as in past years. The dogwoods were in a similar condition; even looks like there are some branches that have no leaves at all. We lost so much of a huge rhododendron in the side yard, that I took it out.

I never had luck with dogwood 2 planted last year are leafing out, hope they live !

Sounds like they made it through the winter. We had two beautiful dogwoods in the front yard we planted about 18 years ago when they were just about 1 foot high. We got them from the Arbor Society...10 trees/$10. However, Hurricane Sandy broke one of them in half. A few branches started growing straight up, and after a year, I cut them all but the biggest one. It will never be as nice as the other one, but at least it doesn't look like a dogwood bush as it did after Sandy.

Fingers crossed I lost almost as many dogwood as cherry trees.

The winter has taken its toll on my crepe myrtle. It hasn't started leafing out anywhere, and all the above ground parts seem to be dead.
