A question for @Nyboy or anyone else that might offer advise that actually works ... What can I use ( chemical or otherwise ) as a deterant for a neighborhood ( ? ) HUGE Black Lab x Great Dane or what ? ? ?
mongrel that comes onto our front yard, sidewalk, front flower bed and makes copious H U G E deposits in the most unwanted places in the early morning , before sunrise , for this past week ? My wife stepped in one of these land mines this morning on her way to her car. :barnie :rant :somad

A sprinkler that turns on when motion is detected. :) You'll want it far away from the sidewalk to not get pegged when you set it off, but close enough to the usual spot that the dog gets the picture. :)

She went to costco a bought a few gaint size jars of ground pepper and sprinked it around sidewalk, she claims it stopped problem. good luck.

THAT would be a horrid way to start the day!

Our lab loved the sprinkler, would bite at the water as long as it was on. I suppose he would not poop there though.

I tried the orange peel tip for a dog that kept peeing on my flowers by the mailbox. Some dogs are not suppose to like the smell of citrus, but apparently that dog liked it. On his owners leash, the dog peed there every time they walked by. I had tall marigolds planted there and it didn't seem to be fazing them, so I let it go. The marigolds got taller than the mailbox.

I bet it would, since they thoroughly sniff the area before they go. LOL

My only experience with de3terrents is when I made a spray with habeneros I grew to repel deer. When I sprayed it on a certain plant (tulips) one of my dogs immediately started rolling on the plant and destroyed it. Did not poop on it though. The other dog did not bother it. I can't say it was repelled, just that it did not bother what was left of that tulip.

The least expensive and less work option would be to try the pepper trick and see if it works. You might need to renew it after a rain at least until the dog changed its habits. It will go somewhere so you might need to cover a large area.

This can be maddening. I had a dog doing that once on the leash. I thought of taking my cub scout pack up to the owner's front yard and having them leave deposits but decided that would be inappropriate.

Alot of folks here use the deer sprinklers (I'm on a golf course) and sometimes the deer love the water and sometimes they are surprised by them. For your problem, I'd buy a big container of ground red pepper from Costco or Smart & Final and sprinkle away on non-damp non-foggy days. Wouldnt take long for that dog to get a snout full...

There was another H U G E bomb deposit near our front door again at 5 AM this morning. :somad Hardly anyone has a sprinkler system in this neck of the woods due to high ( but light ) almost daily rainfall amounts as well as fog and heavy dew for most of the year ( spring, fall and winter ). So, since we too do not have a sprinkler system , a motion detector is of no real value. :hu Applying pepper powders would be of questionable value as most days we have ether fog or light rain or heavy dew which would get the powders too wet for the dog to get a snoot full? :idunno As for motion detector wired for sound ... our next door neighbors work evenings to 3 AM. so they are sound asleep by 4 AM ... I don't think that they would appreciate being suddenly woken up by a LOUD noise just as they enter dream land. :somad Anything else up your sleeves ? :caf Since I don't think it is a stray but have no idea who this mongrel belongs to and since the local rescue ( of NO real service other than their own agendas ) will not come out to catch this  s. o. b. ... I am considering a stake out with a shotgun ... and NO not loaded with salt shot for a permanent fix. However, then I would have the local police to deal with. HELP ! :fl
