what is best to cut the stink?

Internet gave recipe of 1 pint hydrogen peroxide, 1/8 cup of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of dish soap. Lather dog, let sit for 3-5 minutes, rinse. Then use dog shampoo. Any one use that mix?

I have used it successfully (mostly) three times with Cee Cee. She's evidently a slow learner when it comes to black and white kitties. BUT it's been years since we had that problem so I suspect she learned to stay away from the dangerous part. I know we still have skunk in the yard at night. While she sleeps inside, she usually does get out once or twice a night as long as I'm already up.

FYI, this is great. He chases cats, when they stop, he sniffs them and moves on. Ground hogs moved under chicken house, 1/2 grown was caught out in open. He ran at it, it stopped, he started to sniff it. It attacked, chewing up his nose fairly bad. He killed it with one bite-broke its back. Now he kills any ground hog he can get to-a good thing.

Wife took him to back, he saw skunk, thought ground hog. WRONG!!!! He's a smart dog, so now he knows difference between cat, skunk and ground hog. Best part-he was with wife so SHE has to bath the stinking dog. :celebrate:weee:ya

She always reminds me that he is her dog. Yet he goes wherever I go. Lays by my chair. Crawls into my lap. I take him to vet. She feeds him, that's it. Now she gets to bathe her dog-normally my job.

Much like the situation here. The adoption papers state that Cee Cee is Spouse's dog. If something happens to him the dog is supposed to go to our son. Skipped me entirely for reasons I didn't understand.

Yet, she is my dog. I feed, groom, exercise, house train, treat, take to vet, train, etc. She sleeps on her cushion at my side of the bed(s). Called between Spouse and me, she will come to me every time. It is to be expected that I do the dirty work as well. At least Spouse expected it and I never thought to question why he let her play with the skunk and I did the washing up.

So your dog met up with a two-toned striped kitty with a fluid overdrive? And came up on the losing end? And your wife gets to bathe him.....:lol:

We had this problem one time. Our vet said to use a ladies product called Massengill it worked on our dog.
You mix it as a paste, put it on, let set for a while, and rinse off.
Then shampoo.

Rich I will pay any amount of money for massengill medicated powder worked the best unfortunately they don"t make it any more. Was also the best flush for infected ears on dogs. The mixture seedcorn posted works the best. But for some reason the hydrogen peroxide has to be from a unopenned bottle, I add 2 tablespoons of bleach use more baking soda and leave on a lot longer. No matter what you use for couple of months after a faint order will came back if dog gets wet. What worked really good is a client poured hydrogen peroxide on her skunked dog then threw him in her pool. The chlorine in pool water took away smell. it did change the color of hair from black to red LOL. everyone who has a dog should keep the supplies for skunk bath on hand 9 times out of 10 they get sprayed late at night
