Since it seams that every news report ends in pleas for donations... about 2 years ago, our daughter was hired by a family who lived in other states, to see to it that their 91 year old mother, who was really spry , living alone in her own home, suddenly stoped to fill her prescription medications and had very sparce food in her home, and no longer paying her utility and other bills. Within a couple days, our daughter whent to this woman's bank to see why this woman's mail had notices from the bank for insufficient funds. She then , with his woman's relatives permoission for a power of attorney, requested to see bank records of her checking and savings accounts for the past year. It seams that a dog rescue was a beneficiary of several small donations from their solicitations for donations. Then , over several months, the withdrawals became regular, and finally a HUGE withdrawal. This woman had NO idea of this. Daughter then contacted the family as to what she uncovered. The family filed a complained with the Attorney General, who started an investigation. Finall a court case that resulted in the revelation that this scam took in $ 192,000. Those funds were used by a woman to buy her home. The court seized the home and sold it and ordered that the proceeds be placed into this elderly woman's estate, since she died 2 months after the start of her employment by the woman's family. So, please chech on the elderly to make sure that they are NOT being scammed as they are the most suseplable to donate to any and all pleas for sob story donations even to their own demise.
