A local HUGE rock quory has put on a weekend open house at their facility where the public can come and see and the kids ( as well as their parents if they can get in very crowded lines ) OPERATE their heavy equipment for the past 12 years. The people came by the thousands. Everyone gets to ride in the back end of HUGE rock hauler trucks / earth movers from the parking lot to the inside of the quarry .We have taken 2 of our grandkids where they operated backhoes, bulldozers, sheep foot tampers, excavaters, etc. . What a blast for them !!! Last year as well as this year, the Dozer Days are this comming weekend ... they are again having the equipment at the Clark County Fairgrounds just off of I-5 and only a couple miles N of Vancouver, Wa.. The kids can operate any equipment that they desire. OK you big kids, come one and come all to check out the equipment that you "need" for your gardening and dirt/ compost moving needs. Are you listening NYboy? ( Portland [ Ore.] International Airport is less than 20 miles from the fair grounds.)

My eldest granddaughter will be in Portland, OR by tomorrow evening. She's taking a week off now that college is over and before she starts her summer job and decided to check in for dress sizing before her cousin's wedding in August.

Wonder if she'd like to drive a dozer? Nah! Not if she's my daughter's girl. She'll probably be out for parties and shopping while I'd be in front of the Dozer Daze lines.

Did drive to Portland, OR in my misguided youth. Didn't drive by any dozers that I didn't stop to admire before moving on.

Decided: I will have a tractor by mid summer at the latest. Nephew showed me his 39 horse Deere and I fell in love with the machine -- bucket, tiller, mower. I'm going looking for something in that size-ish starting this week.

I wanted to get the basement entertainment center paid off before I sought out a tractor. I guess I'll up the payments and get it off my list asap. They've got good deals -- according to nephew -- on overly expensive equipment, but if I have to do most everything myself I might as well have the proper tools for the work.

Still have my heart set on orange. Even being from Wisconsin, I can't see myself with green and gold in the yard. But I don't let feelings interfere with purchases this large. Gimme a good deal and I'd drive fuschia.
