Hi all as you can see I finally took the plunge and registered here instead of just lurking.
I am considering putting in two dwarf cherry trees this spring. Specifically using the Gisela 5 rootstock from raintree nursery. I am curious if anyone here has had any experience with this variety of tree and also if anyone has dealt with raintree in the past. Thanks in advance. Rich.

Welcome Rich!!! I don't grow cherry trees- but others do on this site- and I am sure they will chime in. Tell us what else you are planning!

Hi lesa. Thanks for the welcome. I have what I call grumbly ground (heavy clay) so everything I plant has to go in raised boxes. I put two new beds in last summer(my camera is charging right now) and one is specifically for the cherries. They may be a little cramped in there but at least they will be well drained. This clay will hold water forever and when it does dry out it turns to concrete.
The jury is still out on the other box but with the price of fruit going up exponentialy I am seriously considering raspberries.
I make my own wine and I'm not getting any younger and the dwarf trees are supposed to bear fruit in 3 years.
I am also building a pen this spring to raise a hog. Still doing the research on that.

Thanks I was concerned with them being all the way up in Washington. These will be expensive trees after adding up cost and shipping charges.

That is amazing. I have done numerous searches for michigan nurseries and never found them. They are only about an hour from here and their phone is in my area code. Go figger. Thank you very much. I will call them monday. :th

Sounds like you have great plans! I am so jealous- I would love to have a pig... Tell me about your wine making. I really want to try it. I especially would like to make mead- since we have bees.... Haven't had the nerve to try it, yet. Every time I read about it, I have flashbacks to science class! I am ordering a bunch of raspberry bushes from out water and conservation group. They are really reasonably priced. I want enough berries for jams.
