That's great that you and your brother have made a connection
@so lucky .
I have so many questions now about family history and everyone who knows the answers is gone.

But my sister is three years older and was always more of a history magnet than I was. I'm planning on picking her brain when she visits this summer.

I can't think of any foods that were served every year at traditional holidays. :\
There must have been something notable...must just be my selective memory. I'll have to ask my sis! Haha.

Hair sheep don't have the same strong flavor as the woolly breeds, so try finding access to someone who is raising hair sheep....it's tender and sweet, melts in your mouth! :drool

We don't have "holiday foods" except at Thanksgiving, when we do have turkey and trimmings. All other holiday meals are whatever we decide we are in the mood for, which is nice.

Bob it was my mothers side of family she never met him. The pub went under during the Depression I have a feeling he abandoned his family when he went broke. No one knows where he was buried. During the depression a lot of men did that cowards. I do know my grandfathers mother was German and had no legs. Funny the section of NYC where my grandfather grew up was for the poor, today it is one of the best sections of city where the rich live.

Ever since the wool market crashed in the US, sheep ranching droped like a rock so the availability of LAMB for the traditional Easter dinner is disapearing . This is the third year in a row that my wife can't find lamb at any grocery or butcher store in our area. Also, I can't find any lamb or an old ewe localy that anyone is willing to sell. :( :(
