I've been seeing some really big "deer" tracks down the road near a small creek, in a place that stays muddy a long time. The toes are splayed out and you can see the dew "toes?" in the back of the main track. I was thinking it would be a pretty big deer, or maybe a wild pig, but I haven't seen signs of wild pigs tearing up the area. Today we get a message that our neighbor about half a mile away has been seeing an elk in their back yard. They sent a pic of it. Yikes! Try keeping that out of the garden!
Since elk are not indigenous here (at least for the last century or so) we think it must be an escapee.
There are elk at a ranch up near St Louis, and also have been introduced in a protected area out near Current River State Park. And now maybe in my backyard!
I prefer it to be an elk rather than a wild pig though. Just sayin'.

Not to High jack but if a animal is farm raised can it still be called wild ? Restaurant had wild boar on menu, when I questioned waiter, where it came from he said farm raised. Duck and rabbit where also labeled game.
