In spite of the name cauliFLOWER few of us have ever seen it in bloom. I know I hadn't till I decided to let my purple cauliflower go to seed. I was surprised at how much difference there is between it and the other brassicas I had let flower.

WHOA. Purple buds and then they open to yellow...amazing!! I think one or both of those pics should go on the Pic of the Week thread!

Are you saving the seed?
That's why I let it flower. I ate the other purple cauliflower and it was delicious. I want to be sure I preserve the strain. If all goes well I should be able to offer some seed to other members in a month or so.

Very pretty! I let my falstaff brussels sprouts go to seed last summer, but the flowers on the stalks were very plain, yellow and small.

The bees have discovered them so I should get a good seed set.

I was just going to say, they look like a wonderful flower for bees! I let my broccoli go to flower, for that very reason...

Looks similar to my broccoli when I let it flower. I tried one, tasted like broccoli. So I used some of the flowers in a salad, it was pretty and tasty.
