I was trying to think how best to show the reality of my filling greenhouse. Since it is so tall and narrow with the center supports, I decided to try an ant's eye view!

Notice that there is the front shelf - location of the ant.
A second shelf - my work bench from the other side.
A high shelf - up there near the peak.

There is a reason why the flats are pushed out like that on the 2nd shelf, and it isn't to give me work room at the moment. The flats are 2 deep on that shelf.

Soon, there will be no room in that greenhouse. I am concerned that low temps next week and a greenhouse bulging at the seams will mean that I will have to begin moving these sensitive babies into my new shed-attached hoop house. I have begun lining up some material to finish the interior walls because . . . Imma gonna have to put some heat in there . .

Forget "filling" that is full! You really have a jump on the season, Steve...

Imagine, Lesa, when those 48 tomato plants to a flat . .

. go into 4" pots at 18 to a flat . . !

What I've done in the past is move them from the floor of the greenhouse every morning to some location under plastic where they can get some sun. Then, they go back on the greenhouse floor at night .

It is toooo much, Lesa.

I guess I can do it but it was like when I had no heat in the greenhouse and it was a 2-shelf affair. There would be all these flats and the sun would start going down and away I'd go . . . carrying them out of the greenhouse to go in the utility room for the night. In the morning, out they'd go to the greenhouse again!

That is why I "needed" a gas furnace for the greenhouse but . . . to justify that ;), I made it wider and put in that ant's view shelf.

Dancing all the flats around the yard every spring, that's why I "needed" the new hoop house in the neighbor's yard ;). More room for plants . . . expand the big veggie garden. I must be outta my mind!

And, now it begins!

Moving flats out of the greenhouse for unheated protective growing during the day -- then, back to the heat for the night!

Soon, it will be too much and may be too bad of weather during days to get them off the greenhouse floor. Gotta get the heat on in the new hoop house!

Wow Steve, that looks so lush in there! I hope you have some sort of wagon to load them on for the trip back to the greenhouse. You must walk miles every day just moving plants!

That is just the song I thought it would be, Steve! When the work really starts in earnest, sometimes I wonder why I wish for spring!

Well, I'm just slipping thru the backfence at this time. I've had as many as 3 "hoopies" on my lawn at a time. Remember my hoopies?

This time, I hope to not use the center path of the temporary hoop house. I'm sure I'll be setting up the hoopies on the lawn. They not only give me a little extra room but are important in my hardening-off schedule. The only thing about them is that I've gotta keep moving them around or the plants in flats kill the plants in the lawn (aka grass).

The trial run for a heater in the shed of the new hoop house will likely be early in the morning, soon. My plan is to move the cool-season things from the greenhouse floor to the hoop house where they can get some sun while the tomatoes and things fill up the shelves in the greenhouse. At some point, I want to leave those cool-season plants in there at night with sufficient heat to ward off temps in the 40's.

The sun is dropping into the clouds on the horizon. Better check the greenhouse heat settings and be ready to venture thru the fence to rescue the plants of Narnia:

the rosemary has gotta go. more room for other plants needed soon.

Nice greenhouse you have there Steve! ;) I wish my "green"house had some green in it now like yours.
It looks like your going to need more room in that greenhouse soon.

Thanks for the picture
