Been super busy, keep meaning to get some pictures up here of our greenhouse and plants this year. Tonight I finally had time to get out there and get things up-potted, and tomatoes hung, more seeds in, and irrigation organized. Our greenhouse is twice as big as last year, and while that makes it much easier to work in, I'm not sure I really took advantage of all that space (at least not as well as Steve does ;) )

Here's the view from the outside, it's 12' x 24', a recycled frame inside of grid that was used at my husband's work for hanging merchandise, super strong and sturdy. And some reclaimed wood, etc. holding it together. Oh, and used bicycle tires to help strap the plastic down, and hold the plastic up from the inside as well.

Three views from the doorway, just hung the tomatoes yesterdy and tonight upsdie down, with cucumbers growing from the tops.

My favorite tulips ever, they were here growing at our house, pink with green strips!

Cucumbers & tomatoes in the same pots, Heather?!?

And, you said something about making use of space . . . ;)

Think for just a moment what it means to have tulips in mid-May . . . I still have tulips that look a lot like those! The Emperor tulips have now fallen apart and the dwarf iris are blooming. And, I'm about 150 miles from the pass into Montana :).

I was flabberghasted today when i saw i have a regular iris sending up a stalk and getting ready to bloom!! Its only like...a month early! With our spring this year, i have to wonder if i even had to cover the greenhouse at all! Mostly i've been fighting the heat. 120-some in there today, holy hannah! Going to cool off a little tomorrow thank goodness.

As far as the cukes and tomatoes together, it seemed to work well last year, but i should really do a little research on what reaaly belongs together and what doesnt - i'm really just crossing my fingers and hoping my garden grows itself from now on without much input, since i dont have a lot of time this summer. Should work fine right?!? :D

Looks good Heather! You're making me jealous with all that greenhouse :) .

I was hoping to get a hoop house put up this year for some tomatoes, but I'm so far behind that's not likely to happen.

I'll be doing good to get just the bare basics done.

Did the JA ever show up? And did Jacob Cline make it?

Heather, you said "Holy Hannah". That's a phrase from Kansas that moved to Montana that only some few of us ever use!

My boss at the greenhouse in Dillon often said that.

I often added: Holy Hannah Banana, she was from Montana and wore a bandana!

That's a real sweet greenhouse ya got started there! It'll be a developing project, ever improving, that's for sure.

It'll extend your season over a month on each side, maybe more in the fall since older plants tolerate cold better.

Watch those temps. There are a lot of different "kinds" of 120 degrees. Direct sun 120, low and in the deep shade north side 120, 5 foot high in shade east side 120 <<< that's the best place to put the main thermometer, and if that one is at 120, it is too hot in there. I'm guessing your thermometer is not in shade. having the main thermometer on the east side also informs you how fast or when the morning temp rises, important all seasons.

I use my greenhouse differently than you do. I plant directly into the soil. I plant a small amount of various crops to extend the season on both ends. The watering then does not become a chore as with potted plants. I have large tubs with the bottoms cut out for tomatoes and peppers, the rest directly in the soil. Plants do not dry out easily even when it gets hot.

You are really going to enjoy having that! Great reuse of materials! I was surprised what a big problem heat was in my greenhouse, too. I spent so much time thinking about the cold- it never occurred to me the heat would be the real issue. I wish I had a way to open the roof...everything dries out really fast in there, without any rain. Enjoy!!
