Happily, Sun Gold will probably be my earliest tomato. I'm trying an open-pollinated replacement for Sweet 100 again this year but I have trouble imagining something as good as Sun Gold.
Maybe Sun Sugar ... The Japanese seed companies did real good work with these golden cherries. There has been a "competition" in my garden between Sun Gold and Sun Sugar every year for over a decade. This year, I thought the series might come to an end (in a tie ). My Sun Sugar seed was old and didn't germinate well. But, they showed up . A little less splitting but a little less flavor than the Sun Gold ...
Anait is my trial replacement for Sweet 100's. Although I like these hybrids, relying on the seed companies for them has gotten me into trouble before.
