It is so amazing to watch a calf being born… and I never tire of witnessing one. This one occurred last August, only 50-60' from our back porch... so convenient for pictures!!!

w_r, I'm glad it wasn't too graphic. I'm the squeemish type. I was alittle concerned at the beginning part.

Are all of your cows red?

No, this is the only red one (which is the dominate color of the Limousin breed).

As I said yesterday, we specialize in homozygous black, homozygous polled (hornless) Limousin. This is an example of a breeding between a homozygous black, homozygous polled bull that is bred to a red cow. The resulting offspring will always be a black polled calf.

Not as graphic as I was expecting either. I may not be squeamish when I see guts/blood coming out of a dead animal, but something about seeing that coming out of a live animal just makes my stomach churn. I was hesitant to click on this thread.

Kind of brings a new meaning to the term "bubble butt."

Also learned about another breed of cow, yay!

You may need to help.

It takes the squeam right outta you if you do.

@w_r_ranch has to watch, especially the heifers with first calves. The birth has to happen and it isn't always easy. I bet they both are fine examples of the breed.
