. . . I have no experience.

I've just come across what for me is an "obscure" seed company (Pase Seed). I was a little confused by their reference on their website to "bids" until I realized that they must have an ebay business.

I checked with the Garden Watchdog for this company and the reports were mixed - positive & negative. It looked like all the people posting there had found Pase on ebay.

Obviously, Pase puts a real emphasis on heirloom tomatoes. Their tomato list runs to over 350 but there's some duplication. Perhaps, they have separated package sizes, I became exhausted at 12 varieties/page and didn't go back to check.

The prices are kind of high but the selection is super!!

What do you know about how legit these outfits on Ebay are - or, how to check?

Well, you don't often find these all together like this. Probably Baker Creek has the only offering that compares to this and it doesn't have 300+ tomatoes!

I thought of you Ron, when I was doing the search that led me to this outfit. I came across a Rio Grande tomato with the seed from Italy. The blurb said that the variety originally came from the US and had gained popularity there.

I was curious if it is still offered in the US - there were a few sources and this was one of them. Rio Grande - sound like it may like your neck of the woods?

I look for people with very high rating percentage and well established on eBay. I actually go in and read some of their feedback and look to see if others have bought the particular item I want (they specify that now automatically) and see if they were happy with it. With the epiphyllum I bought on there recently, I found in the comments several people who had bought them, said they were healthy, well rooted and larger specimens than they expected to receive.

Usually too, with things regarding plants and seeds, I expect their ad to have very detailed information as to the plant name and description and how to care for it. People who know nothing or care nothing for the plants will usually have a very run-of-the-mill and brief ad with few pics or stock pics.

That is how I buy on there. Hope that helps. You can really find some good deals. I've always done well on eBay, so I readily recommend it.

That does help, Journey11.

I went on the eBay site and found a 99.9% beside "paseseeds" for a positive feedback rating. There were only 3 negatives out of several thousand ratings.

I won't need to order from these people on eBay since they've got a website but they obviously do most of their business here.

One thing about tomato seed: You generally don't need more than a few plants so paying a fairly high price per seed may not be a problem . . . especially, if it is an open pollinated variety and you can save seed from the fruit for the next year's garden ;).

BTW, I like your signature, Journey11. To the illumined man or woman, a clod of dirt, a stone, and gold are the same. -- Bhagavad Gita

It reminds me of that joke about the rich guy who is visited by an angel and told that he would soon die.

Mr. Rich begged to be allowed to take something with him into the afterlife. The angel agreed but said that it could only be 1 bag. So, the rich guy packed his bag and died.

When he reached the gates of Heaven, Saint Peter told him that he couldn't bring anything in. Mr. Rich said, "Oh no! I was told by the angel that it would be okay to bring this bag!"

Saint Peter says, "Well, I'll have to look inside."

Peter looks in the bag and then back at the rich guy, "You brought pavement?!?"

Steve: I found that quote and just loved it! Over the years I have sweet talked my husband into hauling countless truckloads of rocks I found for my landscaping. Then when we moved, he had to move them all again! Hehe...

And I will have to pass that joke on. Good one!

I just wanted to bring this thread back since the idea of buying seed on eBay had come up.

This outfit isn't as inexpensive as the one ElijahBoy found but, wow, they've got a wide selection! And, they've maintained that good customer satisfaction rate since I checked back in October.

Their home page link is on my post.

Here's something they have currently: Black Brandywine?!

I won't be ordering thru eBay - I just never have had that experience. Moreover, there are some seed companies like Victory and Swallowtail that I really, really, really should be buying something from since I've thought about it for years . . .

Oh well, there's 1 new heirloom tomato seed company that I'll order from this year (Casey's in Calgary, Alberta) . . . I'm just 1 gardener!! I can't spread myself that thin!!

But, if you are an eBay shopper, I want you to look around and buy something that comes with the potential to make a difference in your life - like a packet of garden seeds :)!

I bought from Swallowtail a few years ago and was really pleased with what I got, and especially with their prices! They had a great selection of hard to find herbs, which is why I tried them.

i have purchased from ebay for almost 10 years and i have sold on there for 8 years
however i have never purchased veggies seeds

i have purchased tree seeds with no problems

i prefer purchasing from ebay because i have a rewards program from ordering from there

i was questioning whether anything stuck out in the auction that did not sound right for an auction of vegetable seeds and if the bid with shipping osunded right
