In the afternoon I like to sit on the deck and enjoy the fresh air and a good book. For the past week or so I have had this little guy for company. He is absolutely fearless when it comes to people.

I am guessing it is not your company he(?) is after. Cute critter! Around here I fear it would be dinner for someone. They are always cuter when they're in someone else's yard. You should see the mess they have made of mine.
The chipmunk is not a problem, it is the squirrels that are the problem. It seems to be a banner year for squirrels, as they are running amok here in New York. The chipmunk will sit on his hind legs next to my lawn chair begging. It is hard to ignore.

My woods seems to support 8 squirrels. I've had Uncle Frank shoot some a couple years and each time the next year came around there were 8 squirrels. Of course when the walnuts and acorns are falling, I have visitors from every direction. Once the surplus foodstuffs are gone, so are the extra squirrels. Eight seems to be the limit. I've never checked the gully-woods to count squirrels, but except for harvest time, they seem to stay away.
Cute chipmunk! We don't have any of those, just squirrels. We have red squirrels, we call them fox squirrels and gray, we call them cat squirrels. Then sometimes we get black ones, a rare albino and in my mom's old neighborhood, there were cat squirrels with blonde yellow tails. (whazzup with that?)
my cats would be watching them from the windows. they get more exercise running from window to window when mine it running back and forth from the wood pile down the driveway searching for food. Mister Cardinal is usually watching the commotion too!
Mary,
Anyone who builds an elaborate home for chickens would feed him also. If it was sitting in front of you with his little paws clasped in prayer you would most likely construct him a chipmunk castle.
LOL
